In this oil painting session, we will create a still life featuring a dark coffee cup resting on a stack of books. Our main focus will be on understanding how light behaves on different surfaces and how to capture these differences using colour, tone and brushwork. We will explore the contrast between the reflective surface of the ceramic cup and the matte textures of book covers and paper. Particular attention will be given to tonal relationships, subtle reflections and the geometry of the composition, learning how to create convincing volume with a limited colour palette.
The session is suitable for beginners and returning students alike, with step-by-step guidance and individual feedback from professional artist Andrey Novikov.
