13 January, «The Porcelain Jug» — Oil Painting Session

In this oil painting session, we will study a traditional porcelain jug, focusing on the relationship between its sculptural form, decorative patterns and the surrounding light.
Our main challenge will be painting white porcelain — a surface that reflects the colours of its environment and contains far more tonal variation than it first appears. We will explore how warm highlights, cool grey shadows and carefully placed reflections create the impression of a smooth, glazed surface.
Particular attention will be given to the jug's complex silhouette, including its curved handle and spout. We will also practise suggesting intricate blue decorative patterns without painting every detail, learning how to balance precision with expressive brushwork.

The session is suitable for beginners and returning students alike, with step-by-step guidance and individual feedback from professional artist Andrey Novikov.
