In this oil painting session, we will create a still life featuring whole and sliced lemons alongside a glass, exploring the remarkable variety of colours within the yellow palette — from bright golden highlights to warm ochres and deep amber shadows. Our main challenge will be understanding how light interacts with different surfaces. We will study the uneven texture of lemon peel, the translucent flesh of cut fruit and the reflections and distortions created by transparent glass. Particular attention will be given to colour temperature, tonal relationships and the use of highlights. We will practise mixing subtle variations of yellow and using expressive brushwork to distinguish between matte, glossy and transparent surfaces.
