A contemporary figure stands among characters whose clothing appears to belong elsewhere; fire-like points of light emerge through the haze, while parts of the scene seem to dissolve before they can become fully legible. The title marks precisely this threshold — the point between what can be recognised and what remains obscured. The painting rewards being seen physically.
